Blushing
Muscle Relaxing Toxin Injections for Excessive Blushing
Excessive facial
blushing can be emotionally challenging as well as socially and
professionally disruptive. Facial blushing can give the
impression of nervousness. The pathophysiology of facial
blushing is complex. The facial capillaries play an important
role in thermoregulation and show an exaggerated response to
mental stimuli. Facial blushing can be associated with specific
foods, temperature, emotional and physical stress. However, it
is important to exclude secondary facial blushing which can be
associated with endocrinological disorders and neurological
conditions.
The difference between normal blushing and excessive blushingFacial blushing is a normal healthy physiological response. The problem occurs when this blushing response creates feelings of anxiety which in turn fuels the blushing which in turn fuels the anxiety etc. Also, some people suffer from blushing much more than others, having built, unwittingly, 'conditioned reflexes' over the years. Sometimes the blushing is situational, such as when the person has to speak in front of groups of others, or feels that they are 'on the spot'. Sometimes a person will often blush even with just their immediate family. B.Toxins are a new and effective treatment for facial blushing. They are applied as a series of injections placed superficially in the skin. The capillaries responsible for blushing are stimulated by specific innervation and the Toxins are able to block the neurological (mental) stimulation for many months. In the same way hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) is treated by blocking the neurological transmission to the sweat glands.

Possible complications or side effects? Around 3% of patients have minor side effects, which may include temporary numbness or temporary partial loss of function of muscles in the area of injection. Partial loss of muscle function can result is asymmetrical smile. How long will I need off work? Your treatment will generally take around 30 minutes. Can I have my first treatment at the same time as the consultation?
